Social Media Week, Lagos, the largest digital media, and tech conference in Africa is set to hold its 6th edition on the 26th of February to the 2nd of March, 2018 at Landmark Event Centre, Lagos.

Themed ‘Closer’, the digital media and tech conference will involve businesses, bloggers, musicians, activists, citizens across Nigeria and around the world who will meet up to network, share ideas and explore the unique, social, economic and cultural impact of social media in Africa.

Speaking on this year’s gathering, the Co-Founder of Social Media Week, Ngozi Odita, expressed her excitement on how the platform has been widely embraced by Nigerians and even around the globe. She stated that the conference will continue to grow bigger and better every year.

“Social Media Week 2018, as with previous years, will seek to assist in the creation of jobs, facilitate and create investment, help achieve gender balance and create an easy access to quality education,’’ she said.

She further explained that this year’s edition will be a world-class experience that showcases Africa’s brightest minds. “We’ve planned different activities such as Afrobeats & Eats Fest, Shop Africa, ‘A Great Day in Gidi’, ‘Launched in Africa, a platform for African led early-stage start-ups to showcase products and services that are disrupting industries across the continent’ and a pop-up library featuring emerging African authors which will educate, entertain and engage the public,” Odita stated.

Since the last five editions, Social Media Week has grown to be one of the largest events that are organized in Lagos, Nigeria with over 12,000 people participating in the conference, with a global online reach of 810 million and over 300 speakers. This year, it promises to be even more impactful with up-to-date information and insights about tech, new media, and general business related focus.

Social Media Week is known for creating productive conversations and experiences. As such, the platform will bring together a range of perspectives to discuss the most productive ways to harness these forces to drive innovation, improve consumer experiences and bring people together.

The conference this year will set the tone for ideas, trends, insights, business practices, and policy that leverage technology to change industries and communities across Africa. Key focus areas would be on socio-economic and technology issues such as the future of media,

Governance, Entertainment, Women in tech, travel, and tourism, as well emerging ideas and trends.
