LASG UPGRADES WEBSITE – UNVEILS IT AS “NEW FACE OF LAGOS ON THE CYBERSPACE”

The 2nd of November 2018, will remain a memorable day in the digitization progress of Lagos State as it sets another record through the unveiling of its upgraded official website; a process which started a long time ago and can only get better with the adoption of current technology and tools.

The unveiling which took place at the Lagos State Digital Village was themed ‘The New Face of Lagos in the Cyber Space,’ had top government officials in attendance including journalists from both old and new media.

With focus on content management and distribution, the goal is to increase communication and response rate with Lagosians from the current 23% to 75%. Speaking at the event, the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lagos State, Kehinde Bamigbetan,  emphasised that the new ‘Face of Lagos’ is designed to enhance service delivery to Lagosians as it will entail dishing out accurate and timely information about the State a government within and outside the country across different online platforms especially social media.

Some of the current features of the website include: 8am – 4pm live chat for queries and complaints resolution, Land use charge calculator, Weather Forecast widget, Access to Emergency numbers, Retail prices of selected essential items in Lagos metropolis, Tourism Event Calendar/guide around Lagos, live tweets among others.

The commissioner further stressed that, “The new Lagos State Website is a community and a hub of information on everything you need to know about Lagos. It will go a long way in fighting fake news in the country and it will help journalists and individuals to get good information about the state. Through the site, we will be able to welcome opinion and complain from our visitors and in no time give quick response.”

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Kofoworola Awobamise who was represented at the event by the Director, Public Enlightenment Department, Mr. Toyin-Adeni Awosika, also said that “Lagos State has always strived to improve the policy of inclusiveness of the current administration by regularly engaging the citizenry through its various outlets.”

Mrs Awobamise  disclosed that the upgraded website will boost the Ministry’s duties of increasing and improving the social media presence of the state government.
