FCT, Cross River and Kebbi Residents Paid Highest Transport Fare in November 2018 – NBS

Residents of FCT, Cross River and Kebbi states paid the highest bus journey fare within the city in November, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said.

The bureau, in its transport fare watch report for November, said residents of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory paid an average of N395.00; residents of Cross River paid N320.00 and those in Abia paid N280.00 in the month under review.

The report added that states with lowest bus journey fare within city were Rivers (N110.00), Anambra (N110.00) and Bauchi (N100.00).

The report for November 2018 covers the following categories namely bus journey within the city per drop constant route; bus journey intercity, state route, charge per person; airfare charge for specified routes single journey; journey by motorcycle (Okada) per drop; and waterway passenger transport.

“Average fare paid by commuters for bus journey intercity decreased by -1.54% month-on-month and increased by 18.95% year-on-year to N1,790.14 in November 2018 from  N1,818.12 in October 2018. States with highest bus journey fare intercity were Abuja FCT (N4,500.00), Plateau (N3,000.00) and Borno (N2,850.00) while States with lowest bus journey fare within city were Enugu (N1,185.00), Edo (N1,100.00) and Abia (N1,000.00).”

“Average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey increased by 2.12% month-on-month and by 0.96% year-on-year to N32,804.05 in November 2018 from N32,122.76 in October 2018.  States with the highest airfare were Lagos (N40,500.00), Abuja FCT (N38,500.00) and Jigawa (N38,500.00) while States with the lowest airfare were Oyo (N25,000.00), Taraba (N25,500.00), and Osun (N25,500.00).”

It added that the average fare paid by commuters for the journey by motorcycle per drop decreased by -6.03% month-on-month and increased by 25.82% year-on-year to N121.76 in November 2018 from N129.56 in October 2018. States with highest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Ogun (N220.00), Ondo (N210.00) and Bayelsa (N200.00) while states with lowest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Adamawa (N50.00) Zamfara (N60.00) and Niger (N60.00).

Also, the average fare paid by passengers for waterway passenger transport decreased by 6.83% month-on-month and  -5.44% year-on-year to N563.11 in November 2018 from N604.36 in October 2018. States with the highest fare by waterway passenger transport were Bayelsa (N2,150.00), Rivers (N1,700.00) and Delta (N1,560.00) while states with the lowest fare by waterway passenger transport were Borno (N110.00), Niger (N200.00) and Kebbi (N200.00).
