Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB) has sought the cooperation of the State Waterways Authority (LASWA) to forge a united front to monitor traditional medicine practice in the State towards halting spurious and dangerous activities of unregistered practitioners, especially in the riverine areas.

The Coordinating Director, LSTMB, Mr Kadiku Olorunkemi made this known during a visit to LASWA to solicit support for use of water transportation and provision of life jackets that will aid the monitoring activities of the Board.

He said the partnership was necessary to reach traditional medicine practitioners who operate within aquatic and marine environments in the State, in addition to those practising in the residential areas.

Olorunkemi maintained that the Board needs to carry out its monitoring functions holistically and, therefore, will explore the areas of comparative advantage with other relevant government agencies that are key to the realisation of its objectives.

He said further that the collaboration with LASWA would make it easier for the officials of the agency to tour the riverine areas and ensure that the practitioners in such locations conform with the laid down operational standards.

In his response, Mr Ibrahim Famuyiwa, Head of Operations in LASWA expressed the Agency’s willingness to partner with LSTMB as both organisations are committed to working towards a greater Lagos.

Speaking further, Famuyiwa affirmed that since securing Lagos State Waterways is one of the mandates of LASWA, the agency will leave no stone unturned to guarantee the safety of residents of the State.

He promised that LASWA will make boats available with the crew and also donate branded life jackets to LSTMB during the monitoring exercise.
