The Cardiothoracic Unit of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), in collaboration with Voom Foundation, has successfully carried out surgeries with a hundred per cent success rate for five patients.

The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Professor Adetokunbo Fabamwo expressed delight at the outcome of the procedures, expressing the hope of greater partnership with the Foundation for future medical activities.

He also expressed optimism that LASUTH would, in the near future, build a self-sustaining cardio-thoracic unit and receive greater support from the Voom team to carry out similar surgeries on a regular basis.

In his contribution, Dr Vincent Ohaju, the Founder of Voom Foundation and leader of the Mission team to Nigeria, anticipated that more critical surgeries would be handled on subsequent programmes, promising to “put up strong advocacy to increase the foundation’s engagement with LASUTH on a periodic basis.”

The Vincent Obioma Ohaju Memorial (VOOM) Foundation was established in memory of Dr Vincent Obioma Ohaju’s father to raise the standard of care and create a sustainable medical institution in Nigeria.
