The students’ faces said it all. As five white buses filled with people donning Yellow T-shirts with “21 Days Of Y’ello Care” boldly inscribed on it came down with a single objective; to renovate, set up & train students on a new e-library complex. The benefactor was the Lagos State Senior Civil Service Model College, Igbogbo, Ikorodu.

The staff of MTN, over 300 of them started their Corporate Social Investment in the school by coming together as a team and delegating tasks. First was to keep the place in order by cleaning of the allocated location for the e-library. This was followed by painting, tiling and setting up of the desks by the staff. Part of the donations from the initiative included 15 desktops, a laptop, routers and data for internet connectivity.

The official handover of the e-library was done by Mr Ude Enebili, General Manager IT, Infrastructure & Performance Management, MTN Nigeria, while Mr Ayorinde Jemilo, Senior Manager, VAS Messaging & Digital Operations MTN Nigeria took time out to show the students and stakeholders the use of e-library and its benefits.

The students in appreciation of the gesture by the telco brand staged a choreographed play in French as well as a cultural dance.

During her speech, the principal of the model school founded in 1993, Mrs B.A. Oyesanya said she was pleased with the initiative, as it will reposition the school as a technologically advanced institution ready to compete in an ever-changing society.

The Y’ello Care Initiative, which is in its 13th year, is an effort by MTN Nigeria to drive home the company’s commitment to showing the human side of MTN’ers (MTN Staff/Champion). For 21 days from the 1st of June, the telecommunication giants will continue giving back to their communities nationwide.
