As the number of African entrepreneurs continues to rise, governments have begun to develop programs and platforms conducive enough to make the sector a lucrative one. Still, the government cannot do everything alone. The private sector is in a position to play a role in the development of our continent in the 21st century. Multinational institutions like UBA have continued to demonstrate unrivalled support for the SMEs.

The Chairman, UBA Group, Tony Elumelu has continuously highlighted the essence and power of entrepreneurship in the development of the economy of nations.

He reinforces the gains of entrepreneurship in Africa at the 2019 Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Forum where more than 5,000 participants and 60 speakers across 3 continents converged. The event attracted African leaders such as: Paul Kagame, President, Republic of Rwanda; Macky Sall, President, Republic of Senegal; Félix Tshisekedi, President, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC); Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria; and Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Prime Minister, Republic of Uganda, representing the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni.

It has indeed been a good year for SMEs in Africa and a big win for economic development with the immense support UBA has demonstrated. The Group Managing Director, Kennedy Uzoka, affirms UBA’s interest in the continuous growth of SMEs. “United Bank for Africa will support entrepreneurs across Africa through various initiatives”.
