Allianz Nigeria: The Clean Water Initiative (Photos)

As part of a deliberate approach to societal development, Allianz Nigeria successfully implemented a Clean Water Initiative for over 250,000 residents in Tshohuwar Gwaram Local Government Area, Jigawa State, Nigeria. The initiative, commissioned in August 2019, is aimed at providing clean water for the residents through the implementation of a mechanized borehole.

Over the years, access to clean water had always been a challenge for the people of Tsohuwar Gwaram LGA as the community was exposed to several health risks associated with the use of unclean water from a well and river. The people would often travel a long distance (about 2km) by foot to the neighbouring village to fetch water from the river during the dry season. The same river is used by nomads in the area to wash and feed their animals thus contaminating it for use. Our objective was, therefore, to tackle this issue in a sustainable way and provide relief to the community.

After several visits and consultations with key stakeholders, Allianz Nigeria successfully set up and commissioned the community’s first mechanized borehole which will ensure that safe and clean water is accessible to every member of the Tshohuwar Gwaram community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, His Excellency, the Emir of Dutse and Alhaji Nuhu Muhammadu Sanusi expressed their profound gratitude to Allianz Nigeria for the thoughtful and successful initiative that could go a long way in improving sanitation and hygiene in the community. The massive turnout in attendance by members of the community during the event was an indication of the heartfelt appreciation and gratitude expressed by the people.

We have been inspired by this success story and will continue to seek and carry out initiatives to address other challenges faced by communities across the nation.
