Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has won the Network Infrastructure Initiative of the Year award at Comms MEA Awards 2019 for its Ericsson Radio System (ERS) for 5G. The solution is designed to fit all site types and traffic scenarios, even as networks grow in scale and complexity from 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G – delivering industry-leading performance on the smallest site footprint with the lowest energy consumption. All ERS products, 4 million radios deployed worldwide since 2015, are ready to switch on 5G.

Ericsson’s 5G-ready Radio System also allows service providers to explore new use cases and business models as well as capture new revenue streams through addressing industry digitalization. The company is extending the Ericsson Radio System to deliver new radio access products and functionality to smooth the operator’s transformation journey to 5G. ERS extensions deliver a high performance, end-to-end 5G access system which includes the industry’s first global portfolio of 5G NR radios.

Chafic Traboulsi, Head of Networks at Ericsson Middle East and Africa says: “It is an honour to be named Network Infrastructure Initiative of the Year for our Ericsson Radio System for 5G. Smart network operators are not just waiting for 5G, they are preparing their networks and building the capacity and quality for the new functionality that 5G connectivity will offer. To do that, they need efficient and flexible solutions to make the journey to 5G easier.”

Service providers are seeking solutions to both support traffic growth as well as emerging use cases and business opportunities. To assist operators to turn these challenges to opportunities, Ericsson 5G radio access technologies are created to provide the infrastructure needed to support the world’s growing demand for high-bandwidth connections and support the real-time, high-reliability communication requirements of mission-critical applications.

Ericsson is also first to market with solutions that enable 4G LTE networks to evolve smoothly on the journey to 5G, such as Ericsson’s new 5G platform for combined core and radio use cases. The platform comprises the 5G core, radio and transport portfolios, together with digital support systems, transformation services and security.
