Prices Of Tomatoes, Rice, Yam increased in November – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said the average price of some selected food items in the country increased in November.

NBS said this in its “Selected Food Price Watch (November 2019)’’ report released on its website.

The bureau said the selected food price watch data for November 2019 reflected that the average price of 1 dozen of Agric eggs medium size decreased year-on-year by -2.90% and increased month-on-month by 0.31% to N463.91 in November 2019 from N462.46 in October 2019 while the average price of piece of Agric eggs medium size (price of one) decreased year-on-year by -2.88% and increased month-on-month by 1.65% to N41.18 in November 2019 from N40.51 in October 2019.

According to the report, the average price of 1kg of tomato decreased year-on-year by -14.66% and increased month-on-month by 7.64% to N251.21 in November 2019 from N227.50 in October 2019.

It said the average price of 1kg of rice (imported high quality sold loose) increased year-on-year by 18.27% and month-on-month by 16.44% to N445.45 in November 2019 from N382.57 in October 2019.

“Similarly, the average price of 1kg of yam tuber decreased year-on-year by -15.03% and increased month-on-month by 13.05% to N203.20 in November 2019 from N179.75 in October 2019.”

The NBS said in arriving at the report, fieldwork was done by more than 700 NBS staff in all states of the federation supported by supervisors who were monitored by internal and external observers.

It said the NBS audit team subsequently conducted randomly selected verification of the prices recorded.
