AVERAGE INTERCITY TRANSPORT FARE INCREASES TO N1,573.74 IN JULY ’17 FROM N1,559.68 IN JUNE ’17. – NBS

The transport fare watch report for July 2017 covers the following categories namely bus journey within the city per drop constant route, bus journey intercity, state route, charge per person, air fare charge for specified routes single journey; journey by motorcycle (okada) per drop; and water way passenger transport.

Average fare paid by commuters for bus journey within the city increased by 2.69% month-on-month and by 53.81% year-on-year to N134.95 in July 2017 from N131.42 in June 2017.

States with highest bus journey fare within city in July 2017 were Abuja (N250.00), Cross River (N228.33) & Katsina (N227.50) while States with lowest bus journey fare within city in July 2017 were Borno (N68.33), Enugu (N78.71) & Anambra (N88.57).

Average fare paid by commuters for bus journey intercity increased by 0.90% month-on-month and increased by 27.49% year-on-year to N1,573.74 in July 2017 from N1,559.68 in June 2017.

States with highest bus journey fare intercity in July 2017 were Abuja (N5,000.00), Adamawa (N3,000.00) & Borno (N2,463.64) while States with lowest bus journey fare within city in July 2017 were Kano (N908.33), Katsina & Jigawa (N1,00.00) & Yobe (N1,025.00).

Average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey decreased by 0.26% month-on-month and increased by 32.64% year-on-year to N32,144.62 in July 2017 from N32,228.55 in June 2017.

States with highest air fare in July 2017 were Abuja FCT (N44,000.00), Taraba (N40,500.00) & Jigawa (N40,000.00) while States with lowest air fare in July 2017 were Katsina (N24,000.00), Kogi (N23,000.00) & Ekiti (N26,000.00).

Average fare paid by commuters for journey by motorcycle per drop increased by 2.00% month-on-month and by 27.49% year-on-year to N103.56 in July 2017 from N101.53 in June 2017.

States with highest journey fare by motorcycle per drop in July 2017 were Rivers (N181.88), Bayelsa (N178.57) & Akwa Ibom (N171.00) while states with lowest journey fare by motorcycle per drop in July 2017 were Niger (N55.50), Delta (N64.17) & Ekiti (N56.84).

Average fare paid by passengers for water way passenger transport increased by 0.83% month-on-month and 23.11% year-on-year to N610.56 in July 2017 from N605.51 in June 2017.

States with highest fare by water way passenger transport in July 2017 were Bayelsa (N2,2844.44), Rivers (N1,750.00) & Cross River (N1,627.78) while states with lowest fare by water way passenger transport in July 2017 were Kebbi (N234.00), Gombe (N173.00) & Borno (N143.00).
