Christian Entrepreneurs, Distressed Companies and Church Buildings.

I was invited to a church whose building, I learnt, used to be a production factory that shut down because of the country’s harsh economic conditions. I was both excited and disappointed at the same time. Excited because it is now a place of worship but disappointed that livelihoods were lost and people were thrown into the labor market.

Church buildings don’t grow economies of nations, functional production factories do. As a matter of fact, you need the latter to maintain the former. I think a more strategic approach that will aid the gospel of Christ is for the church to encourage her pool of Christian entrepreneurs to buy up these distressed production companies, keep them running and generate employment as opposed to converting these companies to church buildings.

I hope we realize as Christians that we are the church. The building is only a place where the church(you and I) gather to worship.

We have to know that what we do in and for the marketplace impacts more on the gospel than what transpires within the walls of a church building.

Jesus knew this and probably explains why most of His miracles were outside of the temple!
