Electricity Consumers got 25,261 prepaid meters in Q2 – NBS

The total number of electricity consumers with prepaid meters increased by 1.59 per cent to 1,615,066 in Q2 of this year from 1,589,805 in the first quarter of 2018.

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company has the highest figure with 17.5% (282,868 meters) of the total customers metered, according to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics obtained by our correspondent. This is closely followed by Abuja Disco (270,918 meters) and Ibadan Disco (254,261 meters).

The NBS, in its power sector report for the second quarter of 2018, revealed that the Yola Disco recorded the least percentage of the total customers metered with (37,329 meters) same as Q1 2018.

According to the NBS, the Port Harcourt, Kano and Jos Discos have 66,507; 65,060 and 54,395 metered customers, respectively.

The power generation statistics for Q2 2018 reflected that a total average of 81,561 MWh of energy was generated daily by power stations.

Daily energy generation attained a peak of 98,573 MWh on the 18th of April 2018. Thermal stations generated a peak of 77,010 MWh on 18th April 2018 while the hydro stations attained a peak of  22,858 MWh on the 28th of June, 2018.

However, the lowest daily energy generation of 52,074 MWh was attained on the 9th of June 2018.
