Academy Halogen, a subsidiary of Halogen Security Group, has officially unveiled its new brand identity as an institution for capacity development, research, thought leadership and advancement of enterprise security risk management.

Academy Halogen, registered in Nigeria as Halogen School of Security Studies & Technology, commemorated its new corporate identity with a colourful graduation ceremony of 88 Police Officers in Professional Executive Diploma in Crime Prevention and Community Safety.

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, the special guest at the event, was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police [Operations], Lagos DCP Alli Muhammed.

Deputy Commissioner Alli commended Academy Halogen and its co-facilitating organizations for initiating a training programme targeting the Police at a time like this. He also charged the graduands to deploy the newly acquired knowledge to boost Nigerian Police crime prevention capacity nationwide.

He noted thus; ‘’I commend the team of academicians and faculty members who made this training a reality. I enjoin our Officers and Men to use all the knowledge acquired here towards tackling issues of crime and community safety in our country’’.

In his keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor, Elizade University, Professor Theophilus Oyeyemi Fadayomi observed that series of violent and social disruptions across Nigeria put the survival of everyone at risk. He noted thus, ’’the 2017 crime Incidence Matrix showing a high rate of offences against property, persons and assets confirms that the present policing strategy needs to be revisited in order to ensure that crime incidences reduce with the inclusiveness of the community and other stakeholders.’’

Professor Fadayomi, however, expressed optimism that these issues have been properly addressed under the Professional Executive Diploma programme. ‘’It is our fervent hope that this training will make a difference to the status quo, as we intend to engage law enforcement officers in higher levels of security training even at post-graduate levels, in order to build a new crop of officers with the capacity for forensic intelligence, crime analysis and investigation’’, he noted.

Group Managing Director of Halogen Security Company Limited, Mr Wale Olaoye commended the leadership of the Nigerian Police for allowing its men to be trained for the professional enhancement programme. ‘’This is the type of great success witnessed when private and public sector collaborates’’, he said.

Mr Olaoye charged the graduands to deploy their newly acquired knowledge for impact, noting further that, they are seeds that will germinate to become the catalyst for change.

In his brief welcome address, Dr. Abiola Allen, who doubles as the Programme Director and President of The Association of Certified Forensic Intelligence and Crime Analysts [ACFICA], described the programming model as very rich, practical and germane to building great careers in the police force.

‘’The course contents are very contemporary and well designed in response to rising crime challenges in our society’’, he explained.

Dr. Wale Adeagbo, the Chief Operating Officer of Academy Halogen described the success of the maiden edition of the training as overwhelming. While commending participants for their passion to learn, he encouraged them to continuously seek new ideas. ‘’Knowledge is power, I encourage you to go the extra mile to add to knowledge in your field’’, Dr. Adeagbo said.

On behalf of the course participants, CSP Veronica Ameh-Akpa, Officer-In-Charge, State Intelligence Bureau [SIB], Lagos expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police for approving the training. She also commended Academy Halogen faculty members for adding to their knowledge.

The Crime Prevention and Community Safety course, which is in line with the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime [UNODC], was jointly facilitated by Academy Halogen, the Association of Certified Forensic Intelligence and Crime Analysts [ACFICA] and Elizade University, to equip Men of the Nigerian Police with requisite skills to prevent and respond to emerging crime and community safety issues.
