Ikeja Electric Introduces Young Engineers’ Programme

Ikeja Electric Plc, Nigeria’s largest electricity distribution company has launched her Young Engineers Program. The program designed to significantly improve the capacity of graduate trainees at the company will include both classroom and practical field practice experience which will be for a twelve (12) months period.

IE boasts of a robust workforce of experienced engineers who make up part of the Internal Learning Faculty. The class sessions holds at her Learning Center in Ikeja Business Unit. Trainees will then be posted across the IE network where they will undergo practical field On-The-Job experience. Organized by Talent Development Unit, the programme comprises an intense and robust evaluation mechanism which will be used to progressively assess the participants performance.

Speaking at the launch of YEP, The Head, Talent Development, Ikeja Electric, Henry Ajibola, noted that the goal of the training is to build capacity of technical manpower with requisite skills and competencies needed to operate, manage and sustain the infrastructural development and growth within Ikeja Electric, especially among the new Engineers recently engaged. “Ours is a practical sector. The key is in ensuring proper knowledge transfer from our very experienced technical workforce to our new hires who are coming on board. That is the only way to ensure that we remain relevant to the needs of our customers, guaranteeing them better service. It is also, the only way to ensure a bright future for IE and more importantly the millions that depend on us for power distribution”, he said.

Trainees will also be assigned general supervisors from the Technical Department who will act as mentors to guide their developmental process. Ikeja Electric continues to invest heavily in training and capacity building programs designed to improve her workforce.

In a similar development, a one day programme on Personal Effectiveness, Safety and Defensive Driving has been organized for drivers. The training, designed to build safety consciousness of drivers with regard to assets and lives took place on Saturday 29th July, 2017. The intervention focused on detailed knowledge of work relationships, compliance, Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct as well as best safety practice to be observe when driving and security implications of wrong or careless driving.

The Workshop series will impact 239 employees.
