Lagos Business School receives Bloomberg Terminals from FBN Quest

Lagos Business School received ten additional Bloomberg terminals from FBN Quest, which were officially presented today, July 5, 2018. These terminals are an addition to the two terminals the merchant bank initially provided in 2014. This donation was in line with the mutual knowledge and capacity development objective of both institutions.

The Bloomberg terminal is a computer software system by Bloomberg L.P. a leading financial data vendor that enables professionals in the financial service sector and other industries to access the Bloomberg Professional service. Users can monitor and analyse real-time financial market data and place trades on the electronic trading platform. The system also provides news, price quotes, and messaging across a secure network.

The initiative commenced in 2014 with the financial institution providing two terminals to the school’s library to equip more participants with suitable tools for beneficial knowledge in the finance and research sector. Effectively utilisation of the provided knowledge resource resulted in the expansion of the gesture to benefit more students and the larger LBS community of researchers, faculty and library patrons.
Dr Enase Okonedo, Dean, Lagos Business School thanked FBN Quest for the provision of the resource centre and mentioned the benefit of added qualifications for the students through the certificated online courses. “This feat suits with our efforts to provide global standard teaching and knowledge sourcing facilities. The participants’ experience is significantly enriched, and the benefit of added qualifications is a bonus. We are glad to have this partnership with the organisation, and the Bloomberg terminals have been impactful for the beneficiaries and the school in general.”
Speaking at the media event, Kayode Akinkugbe, MD/CEO, FBNQuest Merchant Bank said, “We are conscious of the role technology plays in providing people with access to information. We believe it is important to equip students with the right financial tools and research, and we want to contribute meaningfully to that”. The delivery of the initiative aligns with the group’s Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability (CR&S) focus areas of knowledge & skills development and sustainable finance/investment.
Testimonials were received from users who attest to the value derived from the terminals. According to Ayodeji Osisami, an MBA 16 candidate, “the Bloomberg terminals have given me a well-rounded understanding of the economy and financial markets, it has also provided current information on markets around the world, the terminals have been of immense benefit to my overall learning experience.
Another MBA candidate Nathaniel Oto-Obong said “I was able to complete the Bloomberg Market Concept (BMC), a self-paced e-learning course at no financial cost.  This helps me understand financial markets better, as well as economic reports of companies and countries; I am glad to have chosen LBS for my MBA, as resources such as the Bloomberg terminal and other learning resources.
