Lagos Business School take Participants on tour of Computer Village & Nike Art Gallery

Lagos Business School in partnership with Duke Corporate Education (South Africa) hosted an International Executive Development Programme (IEDP) for the Banking Sector Education and Training Authority (BANKSETA), South Africa.

The five-day programme brought together high potential leaders from the investment-banking sector in South Africa and immersed them into the best practices of the Nigerian economy, culture, and environment.

On the first day, participants visited three places to give them a real taste of the Lagos lifestyle. The day began with a visit to Balogun Business Market, then the Computer Village at Ikeja and finally to the Nike Art Gallery in Lekki.

Dr Franklin Ngwu, Senior Lecturer, Strategy, Finance and Risk Management, LBS, remarked that it was necessary for the participants to explore Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria. The trip was to aid the South African investment bankers to understudy the Nigerian financial sector to see areas of opportunity, investment, and collaboration with the two countries. “We exposed our participants to both the formal and informal aspects of the Nigerian economy, and we foresee possible cooperation and investment between the two economies,” Ngwu concluded.

Computer Village believed to be West Africa’s biggest gadget market where items related to Information and Communications Technology (ICT) accessories can be found makes it one of the most popular places in Nigeria. While touring computer village, participants visited SLOT Nigeria, one of the leading mobile gadget distributors in the country to speak on thriving in Nigeria’s economy.

Afterward, participants visited the Nike Art Gallery which is arguably the largest of its kind in West Africa. It boasts a collection of about 8,000 various artworks from various Nigerian artists. A vibrant dance group received the participants at the Nike Art Gallery. Nike Davies Okundaye, the owner of the gallery, welcomed all and shared the gallery’s history. It was an eventful day for the South African bankers who worked on adire and learned about the creative art industry.

BANKSETA is an enabler of skills development and transformation in the broader banking and microfinance sector and supports people development through partnerships, skills development, alleviating unemployment, creating a brighter future and enabling change in South Africa.

The participants were encouraged to be global thinkers, but have a deep understanding of the local challenges and how it can be tackled.
