The Lagos State Government has completed necessary arrangement to extend potable water supply to Ogudu Ori-Oke and Alapere areas of Lagos State.
The Managing Director/CEO, Lagos Water Corporation, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus revealed this today, 16th November 2017, at the Stakeholders Meeting on Network Extension of Water Distribution to Ogudu Ori-Oke and Alapere areas of the State.
The LWC boss said His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Executive Governor of Lagos State made the promise some months ago that water would be provided for all Lagosians, particularly the residents of Ogudu Ori-Oke.
He said the Governor is set to fulfill/deliver on his promise with all sense of responsibility and commitment and this is one of the reasons why the present administration has recorded unprecedented achievements and continued to remain the toast of other states.
“Lagos State Government places a high premium on the interest of the people, that is why the State is committed to ensuring that this community is provided with uninterrupted water supply through this network extension that will be supplied directly from Adiyan Waterworks of 70MGD”.
The reticulation will cover Ogudu Ori-Oke, boost pressure to part of Alapere and other neighboring communities and will later be expanded to accommodate more households.
“The project is part of government’s efforts to strengthen water supply network, increase operational efficiency and water flow capacity to meet the demand for water and contribute to sustainable development in the State”.
It is a demonstration of government’s appreciation of the cooperation and supports the residents of this community have exhibited towards this administration and it is our hope that you will continue to cooperate with the government in its desire to transform Lagos to become an enviable State.
He reiterated that the government has not forgotten anybody in the State, because as we all know that the usual character of the present administration is to allow the good people of Lagos to participate in the initiation and execution of projects that affect their lives, as today’s meeting/forum serves as a good platform for all of the stakeholders to discuss and strike a compromise and prepare for the success of the project.
Engr. Badmus, however, said the present administration is working assiduously to make things work, and we need the support and cooperation of Lagosians to achieve desired results.
He appreciated the project contractor Salini Nigeria of the Salini Group, the contractor currently undertaking 70 MGD Adiyan Phase II and said the company has been the good and reliable partner that executes LWC water projects in consonance with the specifications and standards.
“When the reticulation of this project is completed, the connected properties would be fully metered, and ultimately assist us in increasing the efficiency and reliability of our water networks, reduce water wastages and encourage water conservation.
The Corporation, Executive Director, Operations, Engr. Suraj Ijaiya in his brief project description explained that from Ogudu roundabout there is already 2 diameter pipe, and from which water from Adiyan will be connected.
Engr. Ijaiya mentioned that presently, a bigger pipe will be connected to the 2 diameter pipe, to cover 26 Street as phase I.
“Some street with inadequate water supply will be connected to the new Network Extension to enjoy fully charged water mains/pipe”.
Alapere will also be taken into consideration, Also Igboho and Oshodi areas of the axis.
He said the project will connect about 700 households and also expected 30,000 customers.
He, therefore, urged the members of the public to pay their bills as to when due.
The LWC, Head, Sales and Commercial, Mr. Micheal Ajose said Installation of prepaid meters will go hand in hand with the new connection/project to control water wastages and encourage water conservation.
He said the metering scheme is a “pay as you go” system, which recharge can be made in LWC Mende zonal office.
While seeking the residents’ support and Cooperation for the success of the project, the Salini Nigeria Ltd. Managing Director, Mr. Paolo Capelala, said LASG is set to bring an uninterrupted potable water supply to the area and promised to deliver a quality job.
The Chief Imam of Ogudu Community, Alhaji Imam Yusuf Durojaiye urged the residents to support the project for its success, he concluded.
