“Safe water and adequate sanitation and hygiene facilities are critical to the survival, growth and well being of the children.”

Universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation is one of the seven promises made by 71 Heads of State at the World Summit for Children in 1990 to transform and improve the lives of the world’s children.

“The reason is clear: Safe water is essential for life and sanitation and hygiene enhances good health.”

Presently, “In Nigeria, access to clean water and sanitation is generally improving — but at a slow pace.”

Available statistics indicate that access to basic sanitation and water supply in the country is still less than 50 percent. Increasing access is, therefore, a major challenge.

It is on this premise that the Minister for Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman H. Adamu in his remarks called for modalities and strategies to revitalize the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector, as a way forward to improve access to safe drinking Water and Sanitation in Nigeria.

A recommendation and communique are expected to be issued at end of the 2-day retreat to draw the curtains of the 2nd edition of the National retreat.
