MAP: THE HIGHEST RATED BREWERY IN EVERY COUNTRY

Across the world, people love their beer. But different styles dominate in different countries. Whether it’s IPA, pilsner, stout, or adjunct lager, those tastes are reflected in each country’s favorite brewery. We looked at the ratings on Untappd to find out every country’s most popular brewery. What we discovered was that even though giant multinational companies dominate most of the beer world, tastes truly are regional. Here is a map of every country’s favorite brewery.

Notes & Methodology

We limited our selections to active breweries which operate their primary brewing facility in the country (regardless of the nationality of a parent company if it exists). This resulted in a number of results that differ from what you might find on Untappd. In Denmark, the top ranked brewery is a meadery. In France, the top three ‘breweries’ are actually cider and/or Calvados producers. In Germany, although the top ranked brewer has produced commercial beers at a number of other breweries, but does not operate his own commercial brewery. The second ranked brewery is actually Stone Brewing’s Berlin facility, which was also excluded. In India, the top ranker is a subsidiary of a brewpub based in Ann Arbor, MI. The second highest ranker was the local unit of SABMiller, which was also excluded. The top ranker in Poland, Spółdzielnia Pszczelarska Apis, a cider marker/meadery, was excluded. In South Africa, the top ranker, a cider marker/meadery, was excluded. Untappd data for the United Kingdom includes all four countries, as well as the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

If data was inconclusive or unavailable via Untappd, the country was not included on the map.
