Peugeot’s given its 308 family car a few discrete nips and tucks for 2017 to help it keep pace with the likes of the recently facelifted VW Golf and new Renault Megane. This revised French offering will go on sale in September 2017 and should cost from around £19,000.

Subtlety appears to have been the order of the day down at Peugeot’s design department. Even the most keen-eyed car nuts might fail to spot the new car’s slightly more angular headlights, larger trapezoidal grille and remodelled front bumper while its slim new indicators are just as likely to sneak under the radar.

Oddly, Peugeot’s not released any images of the new car’s rear but a leaked image from Forum Peugeot, above, show us it’ll look almost identical to the outgoing car.

Peugeot hasn’t made any noticeable visual changes to the 308’s cabin – rather it’s decided to upgrade the car’s infotainment system instead. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink features are all available alongside a new sat nav with 3D maps and voice control functions.

The new 308 is the first Peugeot model to be offered with the firm’s new 130hp 1.5-litre diesel engine. The outgoing car’s three-cylinder petrol engine has also been tweaked to offer reduced CO2 emissions while high-spec 180hp diesel models will be available with an all-new eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The driver assistance systems found on the larger 3008 SUV will now come fitted to the 308, too. These features include emergency city braking, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control. A park assistance feature is also available that’ll steer the car into and out of spaces for you.
