Clockwork Media, one of South Africa’s leading digital marketing agency has been named the new owner of Microsoft’s global digital account after an intense international pitch in London. The agency will provide digital strategy for Microsoft’s Windows and Devices team.

The Johannesburg based agency which was founded by Tom Manners in February 2011 is tasked with running both daily and campaign based operations for all non-US markets for Xbox.com, Windows.com, and Surface.com, a website dedicated to the tech company’s new Surface Pro computer.

The mandate includes technical, creative, UX and data analyses on the platforms and requires frequent participation with Microsoft’s global brand and products teams based in Redmond, Washington.

“We’re extremely excited to be tasked with a responsibility of this magnitude. It’s any agency’s dream to be given the opportunity to work in multiple markets. The scope and capacity for innovation and creativity is huge. Moreover, it shows that South African talent really meets global standards. The team is already stuck in, and we look forward to a great partnership with the Microsoft MDG team,” said Tom Manners, managing director, Clockwork Media.

The account team will be led by Ciaran Burnand, who joined Microsoft in June, 2017 after two years as head of project management and innovations at Aqua Agency. The firm will service numerous Microsoft markets including the UK, China, Mexico, Australia, Germany, France and South Africa.

The London pitch follows a review for PR duties in India held by Microsoft in June, 2017. Several firms were in contention to represent the tech giant, a position held by Edelman since 2014.

In May, 2017 Clockwork Media was the winner in the category of Africa PR Consultancies of the Year at the Holmes Report’s EMEA SABRE Awards. The firm was launched just four years ago and has already reached $2m in fee income.

Clockwork Media is home to a retinue of juicy accounts like LG, Polo, Standard Bank, Xbox, Investec, Lafarge and several more.
