This contemporary reimagining of H.G. Wells\u2019 timeless classic is produced by Urban Myth Films in partnership with Canal+, Fox Networks Group (FNG) Europe &amp; Africa and AGC Television. It is Fox Networks Group\u2019s second production after the successful\u00a0<i><b>Deep State<\/b><\/i>\u00a0series, parts of which were filmed in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r-yas0yPbLU?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Set in present-day Europe,\u00a0<i>War of the Worlds<\/i> is a multi-faceted series, written and created by the BAFTA award-winner Howard Overman (<i>Misfits<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Crazyhead<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Merlin<\/i>) based on the timeless story by H.G. Wells. This fresh interpretation of the classic novel places the intricacies of human relationships at its heart, whether between parents and children, lovers, or strangers.<\/p>\n<p>When astronomers detect a transmission from another galaxy, it is definitive proof of intelligent extraterrestrial life. The world\u2019s population waits for further contact with bated breath. They do not have to wait long. Within days, mankind is all but wiped out by a devastating attack; pockets of humanity are left in an eerily deserted world.<\/p>\n<p>As aliens hunt and kill those left alive, the survivors ask a burning question \u2013 who are these attackers and why are they hell-bent on our destruction?\u00a0<i>War of the Worlds<\/i>\u00a0is a story of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances &#8211; but they are more than just victims in a brutal war. <em>\u201cFor, as we will come to realise, the aliens\u2019 savage attack on earth is not arbitrary: its seeds are being sown before our very eyes,\u201d<\/em><strong> said Overman.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The alien attack and subsequent fallout exposes the deepest vulnerabilities of the characters as they navigate a new, dangerous world.<em> \u201cOur\u00a0War of the Worlds\u00a0is, at its core, a story about humanity. If aliens attacked tomorrow and life as we know it was destroyed, how would we cope? What would it tell us about each other, and more importantly, about ourselves?\u201d<\/em> <strong>Overman added.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>War of the Worlds<\/i>\u00a0features a critically acclaimed ensemble cast of Gabriel Byrne, Elizabeth McGovern, L\u00e9a Drucker, Natasha Little, Daisy Edgar Jones, St\u00e9phane Caillard, Adel Bencherif and Guillaume Gouix. Gilles Coulier (<i>De Dag<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Cargo<\/i>,\u00a0<i>The Natives<\/i>) directed the first four episodes with Richard Clark (<i>Innocent<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Versailles<\/i>) directing episodes five to eight.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe can\u2019t wait for this bold recreation to premiere on African screens.
