Irish dairy company Ornua Foods launches Kerrygold Advantage in Nigeria

Ornua Foods, an Irish dairy firm having operations in Nigeria has unveiled a new product ‘Kerrygold Advantage’ in the market addition to the firm’s whole milk variety and the Kerrygold full cream milk already in the market.

The firm also markets butter, cheese, biscuits and Irish cream liquor, all produced with the finest fresh full-fat milk.

Managing Director Global Foods Division, Ornua, Roisin Hennerty, said that the new product launch is a bold step and a proof of the willingness of Ornua to invest in the economy of Nigeria, creating wealth and making jobs available for Nigerian citizens.

The MD said that over the last five years, Ornua had partnered Fareast Mercantile Company Limited to jointly own a multi-million-dollar packaging facility ― Eagle Industries International Concepts Limited ― with the capacity to employ and engage both directly and indirectly over 5,000 Nigerians.

Kerrygold Advantage will be distributed all over major cities in Nigeria and is already available in major wholesale market and supermarket within the reach of prospective consumers.

The product is available in 12kg sachet, 380g pouch, 400g tin, 850g pouch, 900g tin and 2.5kg tin.

Recently, the Dublin based company opened a €30 million (US$33.39m) cheese production facility in Ávila, Spain to greatly enhance Ornua’s pizza cheese-making capacity and capability while securing its position as a major global pizza cheese supplier.

The new facility has a capacity to produce 35,000 tonnes of mozzarella and pizza cheese, which the company plans to double in the next years.

It has been built on the former Ornua cheese manufacturing site, opening two years since that site was destroyed by a devastating fire.

The reopening of the Ávila facility also marked the creation of Ornua Ingredients Europe which brings Ornua’s Spanish and UK Ingredients businesses together. It will supply cheese and dairy powder ingredients.

In addition to that, it will feature an R&D Centre of Excellence with a pilot plant and innovation kitchen dedicated to developing the next generation of pizza cheese and cheese ingredients for the US$130 billion global pizza market.

Its technology will enable the company to provide a wide selection of mozzarella and mozzarella-based cheese blends.

It also features innovative Individual Quick-Freezing capability, an in-line cooling system and the latest technology to produce pizza cheese ropes for the growing ‘stuffed crust’ sector of the market.
