The eighth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) concluded with a bang on Saturday, 14 May 2022, with winners announced on the biggest and most glamorous night to celebrate African film and television talent.
The films Rattlesnake – The Ahanna Story and Amina won four AMVCA awards each, with Ramsey Nouah winning Best Director for Rattlesnake – The Ahanna Story and Amina winning Best Overall Movie.
Stan Nze won Best Actor in Drama in the public voting categories, while Osas Ighodaro won Best Actress in Drama. Samuel Perry, also known as ‘Broda Shaggi,’ and Omowunmi Dada, both first-time AMVCA nominees, won Best Actor in a Comedy and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, respectively.
Rogers Ofime, the producer, also won several awards, including Best Television Series for The Mystic River, Best Indigenous Language Movie (Hausa) for Voiceless, and Best Africa Magic Original Comedy Series for The Johnsons.
Collision Course won Best Movie West Africa, while The Girl in the Yellow Jumper and Hairareb won Best Movie East Africa and Best Movie Southern Africa, respectively, at the regional awards.
In the special recognition categories, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett (OON), a veteran Nigerian actress, journalist, and television presenter, received the AMVCA industry Merit award for this edition, while Teni Aladese received the Trailblazer award, which recognizes an outstanding achievement by a young and upcoming act.
