EFCC Summons The Okoya Boys Over Naira Abuse

The sons of billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya, Subomi and Wahab Okoya, have been called in by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to be questioned over suspected naira abuse.

The invitation came after a widely shared video from last week that purportedly showed the two throwing naira notes into the air while a police officer clutched stacks of the currency. Concerns regarding the misuse of Nigerian cash and the participation of law enforcement in private endeavors were rekindled by the occurrence.

Sirheem, whose real name is Subomi Okoya, responded to the criticism by apologizing via X and calling his behaviour in the viral video innocent and unintended. The police officer in the video was later located and taken into custody by the Nigerian Police.

However, Nigerians have also called for the arrest of the Okoyas’ sons, particularly on social media, BrandSpur Nigeria news today reports.

According to an invitation written by Michael Wetkas, the acting head of the EFCC’s Lagos directorate, the brothers must show themselves at the commission’s office today, Monday, January 15 at 15A Awolowo Road in Lagos. 13 by 10 a.m.
