The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has officially launched a review of the 6th Edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, seeking input from industry stakeholders to ensure the framework reflects today’s rapidly evolving digital media landscape.

NBC Director-General Charles Ebuebu stated that the review aims to integrate modern broadcasting realities, including streaming platforms, social media, and emerging technologies, into the regulatory framework.

Brandspur Brand News reports that the initiative calls on broadcasters, content creators, scholars, regulators, and all media stakeholders across Nigeria to contribute ideas that will shape the future of broadcasting in the country. The review is designed to strike a balance between audience protection, creative freedom, and innovation, ensuring Nigeria remains competitive in the global digital media space.

Ebuebu highlighted the importance of collaborative engagement, noting that the revised code will reward creativity while safeguarding public interests, and set a forward-looking standard for both traditional and digital media platforms.

Interested parties are encouraged to submit written contributions to the Director-General, NBC, at 20 Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Asokoro, Abuja, and also send electronic copies via bpr@nbc.gov.ng or info@nbc.gov.ng. The NBC stressed that this review represents a critical opportunity for stakeholders to influence policy and regulatory guidelines that will govern Nigeria’s broadcasting ecosystem for years to come.

The call for contributions comes amid rapid digitalisation of media and increasing adoption of online content platforms, highlighting the need for a broadcasting code that addresses modern challenges while promoting responsible innovation.
