The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has approved a one time update of registered phone numbers and email addresses for UTME candidates who have lost access to the contact details attached to their JAMB records.
The new arrangement took effect on September 21, 2026, giving affected candidates an opportunity to replace inaccessible GSM numbers or email addresses through designated JAMB centres.
The Brandspur News Desk reports that the concession reverses JAMB’s previous restriction on SIM swaps and email changes, which had been introduced as a security measure because of the risks associated with altering candidates’ registered contact information.
Under the revised process, candidates must complete identity and biometric verification before any change is approved. JAMB said the additional security checks are part of measures introduced to make the process safer while accommodating candidates with genuine cases.
The service is available only at designated Computer Based Test centres, including Professional Test Centres, Professional Registration Centres and applicable JAMB State Offices. Candidates are expected to use the approved centres rather than relying on individuals or unofficial channels offering to process the changes.
There is also a strict limit attached to the concession. Each candidate can access the service only once, making it important for applicants to provide a phone number or email address that they can consistently access after the update.
For candidates who have lost their previous SIM cards or email accounts, the change could remove a practical obstacle when accessing JAMB related services and information. It also gives them a controlled route to restore their contact details without weakening the identity checks attached to their records.
JAMB said the decision followed improvements in its security framework, particularly stronger identity and biometric verification procedures. The Board had maintained the earlier restriction because of vulnerabilities linked to changes in registered contact information.
Candidates seeking the service have been advised to visit only designated JAMB centres and avoid unauthorised persons who may claim to offer SIM or email update services.
The move forms part of JAMB’s broader use of technology and verification systems in the administration of UTME and admission related processes, while addressing cases where candidates lose access to the contact details originally submitted during registration.
