The Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated a total of One Hundred and Sixty-Two Billion, Seven Hundred and One Million, Seven Hundred and One Thousand, One Hundred and Thirty-Six Naira and Eighty-Three Kobo (N162,701,701,136.83).
This is against the sum of One Hundred and Thirty Billion, Six Million, One Hundred and Thirty-Six Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ninety-Six Naira and Thirty-Six Kobo (N130,006,136, 996.36) generated in the corresponding period of 2017.
This represents a difference of Thirty-Two Billion, Six Hundred and Ninety-Five Million, Five Hundred and Sixty-Four Thousand, One Hundred and Forty Naira and Forty-Seven Kobo (N32,695,564,140.47).

In the statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Uche Ejesieme, the amount was higher by N32.7bn when compared to the N130bn generated in the corresponding period of 2017.
The Customs Area Controller, Tin Can Island Port, Musa Abdullahi, was quoted as telling some stakeholders that the command had been repositioned to become the most business-friendly port.
He pledged compensation to port users who complied with the Customs’s rules and regulations.
He said, “We are deploying multi-layered approach in addressing the issue of compliance, which is a panacea for trade facilitation, through reward for compliance and ensuring that compliant ‘declarants’ are given expeditious attention in line with the Presidential directive on ease of doing business.”
He disclosed that the command was on the verge of fully automating some of its key positions to ensure seamless operations.
The command, according to him, seized assorted items N138.8m during the period under review.
This was more than the seizure of N88m recorded in the corresponding period of 2017, the CAC noted.
