Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun: “The Federal Government and some foreign countries, including the UK, have now commenced the Automatic Exchange of Tax Information (AETI), particularly on overseas assets held by Nigerians. The offshore tax shelter system is basically over. Those who’ve hidden money overseas are being exposed, and whilst Nigerians can legally keep their money anywhere in the world, they must first pay any taxes due to the Nigerian Government. Users of offshore structures should therefore quickly take advantage of VAIDS to declare their income and assets and regularise their taxes.”
