Members of the Solar Energy Products and Appliances Dealers Association, Kano have appealed to the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) for increased support and collaboration to sanitize the subsector in order to ensure that Consumers get value for their money continually.The Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Ahmed Moh’d Sani made this appeal during a courtesy visit of the Executives to the SON office in Kano.
Alh. Sani stated that the Association is committed to complementing the efforts of the SON in ensuring the delivery of quality solar energy goods and appliances to Nigerians amongst other consumable products.
He expressed the association’s concern over numerous complaints of substandard solar related products and appliances from their clients/customers, which translate to lack of value for money spent by consumers.
The Association Chairman sought for SON collaboration and intervention in enlightening stakeholders as well as taking the necessary regulatory actions to sanitize the solar trade sector.
Welcoming the association, SON Coordinator, Kano/Jigawa, Alhaji Yunusa B. Mohammed commended the association’s leadership for the visit and its avowed commitment to sanitizing the solar energy products and appliances subsector. This he said would ensure that only quality products that meet the minimum requirements of applicable standards prevail in Nigerian markets.
Mohammed described the visit as being in tune with the diverse trade sector stakeholders’ engagement approach of the SON in Kano and Jigawa States.
He enumerated the numerous quality assurance initiatives put in place by SON including the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) for certification of locally manufactured products, the SON off-shore conformity assessment programme (SONCAP) for imported products and the Electronic Product Registration for traceability and quality verification.
The SON Coordinator stated that all the initiatives were put in place to deliver quality assurance services to Nigerian consumers in order to ensure value for money and safety.
He assured the Solar products and accessories dealers of SON’s total commitment to protecting the lives and properties of Nigerians as well as the Nation’s economy by ridding the markets of substandard and life-endangering products.
He challenged the Association to provide SON with information and intelligence regarding any unwholesome trade practices for prompt regulatory action by the state office, in collaboration with security agencies.
In his remarks, SON Head of operations, KanoAlh. Bukar Moh’d referred members of the association to the organisation’s official website for up to date information on activities and regulatory requirements for each sectoral group.Some of the major players in the solar energy products and appliance on the entourage were representatives of West África Solar Ltd, Sun Energy Savers, Amsad Energy, Sanka Solar, AJ Solar Energy andAdvancePower Engineering Ltd.
