Bellwether Stocks Drags Equity Market to Marginal Loss

    consumer goods Stock market halts two days downtrend, gains 1.04%

    The Nigerian Equity Market on Wednesday lurched lower to sustain yesterday’s downtrend, as the ASI dipped marginally by 0.03%. The decline was impacted by profit-taking, mostly on big-name stocks. Consequently, the market breadth closed negative, recording 15 gainers against 18 losers.

    In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) decreased by 4.55 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.02% to close at 29,458.21 points, Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization size decreased by N2.34 billion, representing a growth of 0.02% to close at N15.17 trillion.

    LAW UNION emerged as the top gainer while  JBERGER emerged as top loser.

    The downturn was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; FLOURMILL (-3.62%), WAPCO (-3.17%), FIDELITYBK (-1.79%), ZENITHBANK (-1.57%), MTNN (-0.23%), and DANGCEM (-0.12%).

    FOREIGN EXCHANGE

    The Naira at the official window on Wednesday closed unchanged at 306.95/$1, against yesterday’s position.

    The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N362.18, traded high at N357.50 and eventually closed at N362.88, representing a 0.19% depreciation as against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $181.99 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

    MONEY MARKET

    Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 2.86%, representing 0.24% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 2.14%, representing 0.26% depreciation against yesterday’s position.

    NASD OTC MARKET

    The NASD OTC market on Wednesday closed unchanged as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI)  close at 702.69. Similarly, Market Capitalization shed closed unchanged at N504.84 billion against yesterday’s position. Consequently, the aggregate volume and value increased by 1,174.04% and 973.74% respectively, as investors traded a total of 281,690 volume of shares valued at N38.50 million in 2 deals.
