However, the best guess is that the biggest developments and changes to the slot industry in the next 10 years will be centred around technology. Here are some of the best predictions for how slots are likely to change in the not so distant future!

The rise of skill-based slots

There has already been a surge in popularity in slots that are more akin to video gaming than traditional gambling. 3D slot, for example, has more intriguing narratives and storylines as well as immersive graphics and soundtracks that make players feel like they are more involved in the game. Within these types of slots are opportunities for players to interact and make choices in bonus rounds which can influence the outcome of the game – something which was not previously possible in traditional slot games.

For example, players can spin a wheel or shoot at a target in order to uncover a prize. In the next few years, we should see this becoming more common at an elevated standard with skill-based bonus rounds where players can use their skill to win jackpots rather than relying on chance alone.

Female-focused slots

The stereotypical slot player in the past has always been a male player and as such many slot games have been geared to appeal to a male audience. However, the demographic of slot players are changing and more women are playing slot games than ever before on their mobile phones or tablets from the comfort of their own homes. Online gambling is more balanced than it ever has been, with around 44% of players being female and equipped with this data and market research game developers will most likely steer away from designing games with bikini-donned female characters which traditionally were designed to appeal to the male audience to more gender-neutral slot themes.

More generous welcome bonuses

Almost all online casinos offer players welcome bonuses and not only is this not set to cease anytime soon, but it is also likely that bonuses will be even more generous in the coming years. This is because it is a highly competitive market and online casinos are all vying for the attention of players.

The rise of cryptocurrency

You will have no doubt heard of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ether in the news and they aren’t likely to fade away into the distance anytime soon and especially in the world of online gambling, cryptocurrencies will become increasingly popular due to players wanting more anonymity and faster cash deposits and withdrawals of their winnings.

While we can’t be sure, this is the best guess for how online slots are likely to change, but only time will tell!
