BREAKING: Court Stops Planned DStv And GOtv Subscription Tarrif Increase

MultiChoice Nigeria has disclosed that it is adjusting its tariff prices for both DSTV and GOtv packages.

This comes after other pay television companies like Startimes have also announced adjustments to their tariff prices due to an increase in operational costs in the country.\

The announcement was made via text message to all its subscribers on DSTV and GOtv packages.

The message reads thus “Dear Customer, due to rising costs of business operations, please note that from May 1, your monthly subscription (Premium) will be N24,500. To retain your old price of N21,000 for up to 12 months ensure you are active by April 30.”

This ultimately means that the price of the Compact+ bouquet would increase from N14,250 to N16,600 monthly, while the Compact bouquet would also move from N9,000 to N10,500, and the Confam package would also increase from N5,300 to N6,200.

DSTV packages like DStv Yanga and Padi have also been increased from N2,950 and N2,150 to N3,500 and N2,500 respectively.

For GOtv subscribers, GOtv Supa Package now goes for N6,400 as against N5,500, while those GOtv Max would pay N4,850 instead of N4,150.

GOtv Jolli subscribers will also start paying N3,300 instead of N2,800 and N2,250 and N1,100 instead of N1,900 and N900  for GOtv Jinja and GOtv Lite respectively.

MultiChoice also introduced a new offer to its subscribers to reduce the effect of the increase in price. This offer allows customers to pay the old rates for 12 subsequent months if they renew their subscription before their subscription due expiration date. The offers also allow subscribers to pay the old rates for a complete year before the new prices kick in.

A country-by-country comparison shows that Nigerian subscribers on DStv Premium are paying an equivalent of $33.11 (N740/$1) while those in South Africa are paying 879 Rands ($48.48) at 18.1Rands/$1.
