The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has dissolved the Joint Campus Councils (JJC) in Ogun state and called on the Tinubu-led federal government to ensure adequate funding of the education sector.

Coordinator of NANS Southwest, Com. Alao John Oluwadamilola made the call at a news conference held at the Federal College of Forestry, Jericho Ibadan on Tuesday.

The zone comprises Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, and Lagos states.

A statement signed by Alao John noted that “Sequel to the memo released and signed by the National President of our nobel organization, Comr. Usman Barambu dated 23rd of March, 2023 that all Joint Campus Councils that have exceeded 2 years in office be removed, we hereby announce the dissolution of the Ogun State JCC with immediate effect.

Added that “this is pursuant to the dictates of Article 12 Sec 2(iv) of the NANS constitution. Be rest assured, we will do all we can to ensure the sanctity of our constitution is protected”.

Having dissolved the JJC Ogun state branch, NANS announce the composition of a caretaker committee with immediate effect. They will be saddled with the responsibilities of managing the affairs of Nigerian students in Ogun State and are mandated to conduct elections within the next 30 days.

The caretakers include Comr. Adeogun Moshood Feyisetan, Comr. Bada Abdulwasiu Adeniyi, Comr. Alebiosu Boluwatife, Comr. Thanni Damilare Abdullahi, Mojeed Olamilekan Aina.

Furthermore, Alao called on relevant stakeholders in the education sector to look into ways of making education attractive to students with special needs, the internally-displaced ones, those with disabilities as well as the less-privileged in society.

“The facilities on campuses should be designed to accommodate these special breeds among us, as we owe it a duty to care for them,” he said.

He implored governments at all levels and managements of tertiary institutions to reduce the fees being paid by students in order to make education more accessible to the youth.

The NANS coordinator appealed to tertiary institutions’ management in the zone to restore students’ unions in their respective institutions.

He called on security agencies to step up efforts in providing adequate security in all the tertiary institutions across the country so as to make the learning environment peaceful and conducive.
