Bolt is introducing its rider verification tool, allowing Nigerian clients to self-verify. This is a component of Bolt’s continuous investment in safety features for its platform, which will also increase driver-rider trust and provide drivers more incentives to pick up orders.

BrandSpur national news stories report that all of this will make riding faster and more effective for riders.

Before placing a ride-hailing order, users will have the option to snap a photo as part of this in-app function. A legitimate selfie must be a genuine photo of the subject with their face plainly visible and taken when they are physically there. In addition, the rider must upload a form of identity that Bolt will compare to the selfie. The most recent version of the program must be used for the validation process, which can take a few seconds to several minutes.

Continuing, the in-app Safety Toolkit, which allows drivers to share ride details with friends and family, access the Emergency Assist button, and start an audio recording of their trip in case they ever feel uneasy while riding, is now enhanced with rider verification.

Driver alerts assist in highlighting any locations along a trip’s route where a high number of driver and rider safety cases have been reported to Bolt’s Customer Support team. Trip safety monitoring allows Bolt to automatically interact with riders and drivers in-app when a vehicle stays motionless for an extended period to ensure everything is alright.

“Being able to verify that riders are who they say they are is the number one feature requested by driver-partners in Nigeria. The launch of rider verification is an acknowledgement of the importance of mutual trust between driver partners and riders. With increased investment in verification features like this that consider the trip as a whole, we aim to continue building driver and rider trust, which is critical to the safety of the platform,” said Bolt’s Regional Manager of West and North Africa, Lola Masha.
