An agreement to directly carry petrol, diesel, and other goods has been concluded between Dangote Refinery and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).

Abubakar Garima, the National President of IPMAN, announced this development in Abuja on Monday after the Association’s National Working Committee meeting. This comes months after the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) decided against using the 650,000 bpd refinery as its exclusive off-taker for petroleum products.

According to the IPMAN Boss, the partnership would guarantee a consistent and reasonably priced supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) goods nationwide. He said: “After meeting with Alh. Aliko Dangote and his management team in Lagos, we’re pleased to announce that Dangote Refinery has agreed to supply IPMAN with PMS, AGO, and DPK directly for distribution to our depots and retail outlets.”

Garima underlined the value of backing the Dangote Refinery, stressing the advantages of backward integration and the possible advantages for Nigeria’s foreign exchange market.

Furthering, he advised IPMAN members to depend on Nigerian refineries and the Dangote Refinery for white goods, saying: “IPMAN members should rely on Dangote Refinery and Nigerian Refineries for white products, creating more job opportunities and supporting President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.”

In terms of pricing, he was hopeful that talks with Dangote Refinery would lead to more affordable prices for petroleum items. He did not, however, specify the price at which the marketers plan to buy the product from Dangote.

Make the switch to CNG
Regarding Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), the IPMAN boss emphasized IPMAN’s plans to set up CNG filling stations across the country.

Garima also assured members that the Association would collaborate closely with the federal government to guarantee the availability of the incentives and infrastructure required to facilitate the smooth adoption of CNG. He encouraged marketers to seize this chance since it holds potential for the sector’s long-term growth and the country’s economy.

According to him: “CNG has immense potential to boost Nigeria’s economy. IPMAN is committed to supporting this initiative and partnering with the Federal Government for its success.”

It is expected that the deal between IPMAN and Dangote Refinery will boost economic growth in Nigeria’s petroleum sector and increase affordability and efficiency. Plans are underway to deliver goods directly to 150,000 retail locations nationwide and more than 30,000 IPMAN members.

However, eliminating middlemen, cutting expenses, and guaranteeing a steady supply of petroleum products are the goals of this project, BrandSpur national news stories report.
