Morocco’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency Set To Issue Licence To Starlink, Oneweb As Satellite Providers In 2025

To enable SpaceX’s Starlink and OneWeb to provide satellite internet services in Morocco starting in 2025, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency is getting ready to issue licenses to the companies.

If this goes through, Morocco would be one of the first nations in North Africa to turn on Starlink’s LEO (low-Earth orbit) satellite network, possibly establishing a standard for other countries in the region.

With both companies prepared to provide a range of service models and price points, the dual licensing seeks to offer competitive satellite broadband options. This competition could increase internet costs and accessibility throughout Morocco, allowing customers to select the service providers that best meet their needs.

Morocco’s “Digital Morocco 2030” policy, which aims to strengthen the nation’s digital infrastructure and enable wider internet access, is supported by this licensing decision, BrandSpur digital news platform reports.

Increased connectivity is anticipated to propel Morocco’s aspirations to emerge as Africa’s preeminent digital hub, fostering socioeconomic development, boosting digital literacy, and facilitating information access across the continent.
