The Lagos Digital PR Summit presented the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) with the Most Outstanding Crisis Communication in Government Award in appreciation of its outstanding Flood Preparedness and Response Campaign in 2024.
During Nigeria’s yearly flood seasons, NEMA’s creative use of digital communication techniques to inform the public and plan efficient responses is honoured with this award. NEMA’s Director General, Zubaida Umar, received the award from Comfort Obot Nwankwo, Chairman of Lagos NIPR, and Segun McMedal, President of Upticomm Marketing Company and Convener of the Lagos Digital PR Summit, during the presentation ceremony last Wednesday in Abuja.
The leading gathering in sub-Saharan Africa devoted to promoting digital public relations practices is the Lagos Digital PR Summit, which got its start in 2016. Upticomm Marketing Company and the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) are partners in the Summit. The award ceremony took place on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the MUSON Centre in Onikan, Lagos, as part of the festivities for the 9th Lagos Digital PR Summit.
NEMA’s campaign was chosen after a thorough evaluation process, and its creative and significant work was acknowledged for successfully using digital platforms to engage the public, share important information, and proactively engage with stakeholders, offering timely updates to enhance disaster response coordination. Additionally, NEMA put communication plans into place that helped save lives nationwide and lessen the effects of flooding.
BrandSpur national news stories report that NEMA’s DG dedicated the award to the committed employees of NEMA across the country and conveyed her sincere gratitude to the organisers for the recognition in her acceptance speech.
Continuing, she had this to say: “This award is a testament to the dedication and resilience of our team who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Nigerians during times of crisis. It motivates us to do even more.”
To lessen the effects of disasters, she underlined NEMA’s steadfast commitment to strengthening public awareness campaigns about disaster risks and prevention and advancing national risk management techniques. To promote public awareness and disaster preparedness efforts, the Agency will also fortify its alliances with media outlets and professional associations such as NIPR.
Furthering, to prevent preventable disasters in the future, Umar also underlined the necessity of ongoing progress in disaster management initiatives and the significance of encouraging cooperation with stakeholders. This honour recognises NEMA’s critical contribution to improving government communication and its commitment to protecting people and property in times of crisis.
