Carry1st, the top game publisher in Africa, has announced that Insomnia in Cairo, Egypt, will host an all-female Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) event.
The Carry1st Africa Cup: MLBB Women’s Invitational (MWI) qualifier will serve as both the official Esports World Cup (EWC) MWI 2025 Africa qualifier and the start of the Carry1st Africa Cup 2025. The winners of this tournament will advance to the MLBB Women’s Invitational at the Esports World Cup 2025 in Saudi Arabia later this year.
This year’s Carry1st Africa Cup 2025 is the first of several esports contests that will be held around the continent. Best esports players from all over the continent competed for a $15,000 prize pool in Carry1st’s first Africa Cup in 2024. Carry1st will host Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Africa’s largest all-female esports competition.
Female gamers will have a specific platform to compete and display their skills at the greatest level at the Carry1st Africa Cup MWI Qualifier. There will be several stages to it: 32 teams will compete in a double-elimination bracket of playoffs and final rounds in two online qualifiers, one for Egypt and one for the rest of Africa. The qualifications’ winners will advance to the Cairo Insomnia event’s grand final, where the victorious teams will earn a berth at the Esports World Cup (EWC) in Saudi Arabia later this year.
According to Carry1st’s Co-founder and COO, Lucy Hoffman: “I am especially excited for MLBB; it marks the first women’s tournament for the Carry1st Cup and sets the stage for an exciting year ahead, with even more to come. Last year, the Cup was a huge success, and this year, we’re taking it to the next level. Africa has the talent, passion, and drive, and we are committed to providing players with the platform they truly deserve.”
Continuing, Moonton Games’ Head of Esports Ecosystem, Ray Ng had this to say: “MOONTON Games is delighted to join forces with Carry1st to extend our esports initiatives to Africa. We are witnessing a thriving esports ecosystem across the continent and are particularly proud to be able to help talented female players from Africa make their mark on the global stage. This partnership represents our commitment to nurturing diverse talent and creating inclusive competitive opportunities for all players, everywhere.”
The Carry1st Cup 2025 is in its initial installment, and there will be more competitions all year long.

Even though the gaming community in Africa is expanding, the continent is still under-represented in the global esports scene, and due to logistical and infrastructure issues, there is little participation in major gaming competitions. Carry1st is dedicated to changing that, one tournament at a time, while assisting Africa’s developing gaming environment.
Keep checking back for important dates, announcements, and the complete roadmap as Carry1st keeps redefining Africa’s place in the world of esports. MLBB has become a well-known game in the world of esports, and last year it was one of the most viewed games at the Esports World Cup (EWC), with over 250k people watching the 2024 MLBB The MWI 2024 Grand Finals.
