Known as “the first of its kind in Africa,” Iziegbe “Zig” Okungbowa, the Nigerian-American technologist and creative entrepreneur who founded IyeOgé, an AI-powered fashion e-commerce platform, has announced that it will debut in September.
The founder revealed in a statement issued on Thursday that the platform is devoted to African fashion. He stated that the platform aims to transform the way the world views African design by fusing state-of-the-art technology with the rich cultural legacy of the continent and providing a smooth connection between the continent’s most gifted designers and discriminating international buyers.
According to the statement available to BrandSpur news brand: “Blending cutting-edge technology with the richness of African heritage, IyeOgé is more than a marketplace. It’s a meticulously curated platform that aims to connect Africa’s most exceptional designers and artisans with fashion-conscious audiences across the globe, especially the vast African Diaspora hungry for access, authenticity, and elevated retail experiences rooted in identity.
“The platform’s name is a nod to ancestral elegance, derived from both Edo and Yoruba cultural expressions of beauty, grace, and sophistication. But its mission is forward-looking: to create a luxury digital ecosystem where innovation meets tradition, and where storytelling is just as vital as style,” it added.

The lack of an online platform connecting African fashion talent with the diaspora and beyond, according to Zig, served as the impetus for IyeOgé. She stated: “We’ve always had the talent, the craftsmanship, the stories. What’s been missing is the infrastructure to package it and present it to the world in a way that reflects our worth.
“IyeOgé is my answer to that. It’s about access and elevation, bringing Africa’s finest to the forefront with the same level of prestige and precision as any global fashion house.”
A small group of designers selected for their outstanding craftsmanship, creative design, and dedication to ethical production will be featured on the platform’s launch.
Futhering, she had this to say: “Our mission is simple. To show the world that African fashion is not niche, it’s necessary. It’s the future. And it deserves a seat at the table, on its terms.”
