Africa Magic Opens Submissions For 12th AMVCA, Adds New Indigenous Language Categories

Africa Magic, in partnership with MultiChoice, has officially opened submissions for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), with entries running from January 11 to February 15, 2026. The annual awards celebrate excellence in African film and television, recognising outstanding storytelling across the continent.

The 2026 edition introduces two new categories in the Indigenous Language section: Best Indigenous Language – North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa. These additions aim to expand regional representation and highlight cinematic works in more African languages, reflecting Africa Magic’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural diversity.

Brandspur Brand News reports that the 12th AMVCA will feature 32 award categories, including 18 jury-decided categories, 11 audience-voted awards, two Lifetime Achievement Awards, and one Trailblazer Award. Eligible entries must have been publicly screened or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2025. Feature-length films must have been shown in cinemas, on linear television, or via streaming platforms to qualify for consideration.

Entries are to be submitted online through the official AMVCA portal, with full preview copies uploaded in the original broadcast or screening format. Detailed eligibility and submission guidelines are available on the Africa Magic website to guide filmmakers and producers through the process.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Lagos in May 2026, with further details about the event expected to be announced in the coming months. The 12th edition of AMVCA will be headlined by Don Julio as the lead sponsor, reinforcing the prestige and prominence of the awards within the African entertainment industry.

Africa Magic and MultiChoice continue to leverage the AMVCA platform to celebrate Africa’s creative talent while providing filmmakers with opportunities to gain continental recognition. With these new Indigenous Language categories, the awards aim to foster wider participation and honour the rich diversity of African storytelling.
