MoMo PSB Expands Cross-Border Money Transfers Across Africa, Boosts UK, US, Europe Remittances

MoMo Payment Service Bank has widened its international money transfer footprint, expanding outbound transfers to more African countries while strengthening inbound remittance flows from major global markets, as competition intensifies in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital payments space.

The MTN Nigeria subsidiary said the latest expansion allows customers in Nigeria to send funds to a significantly broader range of African destinations, while also making it easier for Nigerians to receive money from relatives, partners, and businesses abroad directly into their MoMo wallets.

Brandspur Banking News Desk understands that outbound transfers now cover multiple African markets including Ghana, Benin Republic, Rwanda, Togo, Cameroon, DR Congo, Congo Brazzaville, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Malawi, Zambia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, The Gambia, and South Sudan, with Kenya newly added to the network.

On the inbound side, MoMo PSB disclosed that users can receive international transfers from key remittance corridors such as the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and several European countries, reinforcing the bank’s role in connecting Nigerians at home with the diaspora.

The company said the expanded service is designed to remove longstanding friction associated with cross-border payments by offering faster processing times, competitive exchange rates, and secure transactions delivered directly into MoMo wallets, without the delays typical of traditional remittance channels.

MoMo PSB explained that the cross-border upgrade is supported through strategic collaborations with Brij, Lightway Finance, and Thunes, whose global payment infrastructure enables compliant, scalable, and reliable international transfers across multiple jurisdictions.

Commenting on the development, Executive Director, Strategy and Stakeholder Management, Usoro Usoro, said the move aligns with the bank’s broader mission to deepen access to digital financial services and strengthen Nigeria’s integration into the global payments ecosystem.

According to him, the enhanced remittance channels are structured to serve both individuals and businesses seeking seamless international payment solutions, particularly small enterprises that rely on cross-border trade and diaspora inflows.

Usoro added that MoMo PSB remains focused on building secure and inclusive payment systems that respond to evolving customer needs, noting that cross-border transfers and remittances are critical drivers of financial inclusion and economic participation in Nigeria.

The expansion comes amid rising demand for mobile-based international transfers, as digital banks and payment service providers race to capture a larger share of Africa’s rapidly growing remittance and cross-border payments market.
