In a strategic move aimed at transforming human resource management in Nigeria, We-Are HR, in partnership with HR Expo Africa (HREA) and Goldstead Resources Company, has inaugurated a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) approved centre in Lagos.
The initiative is designed to equip HR professionals with globally recognised qualifications, enabling them to transition from traditional personnel management to strategic leadership roles. At the launch, Natasia Hieber, founder of We-Are HR, highlighted the critical importance of HR in today’s rapidly evolving business landscape shaped by globalisation, artificial intelligence (AI), and remote work trends.
Brandspur Business News reports that the centre will offer a range of CIPD programmes spanning multiple levels. The foundation programme lasts six months, Level 5 (associate level) takes about a year, and Level 7—equivalent to a master’s degree for senior HR leaders—can extend up to 24 months, with fast-track options available. Hieber emphasised that the certification equips practitioners to support organisations in navigating workforce changes, improving employee well-being, and making strategic decisions that drive business growth.
Muaaz Abid, general manager of We-Are HR, noted that the CIPD qualification provides international credibility and practical tools for career advancement while addressing organisational challenges. He added that while the certification carries a premium internationally, fees will be adjusted for the Nigerian market to ensure accessibility.
The launch also comes in response to the lack of CIPD and CMI-approved centres across Africa, which has historically limited access to professional HR upskilling on the continent. “Africa has been neglected in this space. Our goal is to make world-class HR education accessible to professionals here,” Abid stated.
Erefa Coker, founder of HR Expo Africa, affirmed that the collaboration underscores a shared commitment to professionalising HR in Nigeria. The centre is expected to enhance competence-based practice, promote evidence-driven decision-making, and support sustainable organisational growth, especially as businesses navigate digital disruption, economic volatility, and evolving regulatory demands.
By establishing a CIPD-approved hub in Lagos, the partners aim to position strategic HR as a key driver of corporate success, workforce productivity, and broader national development outcomes.
