The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) Plc has launched a new quarterly digital publication aimed at deepening industry discussion around the technology, policies and infrastructure shaping the future of payments in Nigeria and across Africa.
The publication, known as NIBSS Digest, brings together perspectives from regulators, banking executives, fintech leaders and other players in the financial services sector. Its maiden edition, themed “Redefining the Future of Payments”, focuses on how developments in the payments ecosystem could influence wider economic activity.
Brandspur Banking News Desk reports that the new publication will examine issues ranging from financial inclusion and operational resilience to customer experience, artificial intelligence, digital identity and cross-border payment integration.
NIBSS said the journal is intended to move the payments conversation beyond the simple transfer of money and towards the broader economic activities made possible by reliable payment infrastructure.
The inaugural edition also examines emerging developments including Open Banking, application programming interfaces, sovereign payment rails and the National Payment Stack, reflecting the rapid changes taking place across Nigeria’s digital financial ecosystem.
Adewunmi Oshilaja, Head of Corporate Communications at NIBSS, said the publication was created to give regulators, financial institutions and technology companies a common platform for exchanging ideas and practical insights as payment systems continue to evolve.

He said the maiden edition reflects the industry’s ambition to develop a financial system that is more inclusive, secure and interconnected.
NIBSS Digest will be published quarterly, with each edition centred on a major theme connected to developments within the payments sector. The publication is available free of charge through NIBSS’s official website and can be accessed on desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
NIBSS has also opened submissions for the second edition, inviting regulators, financial institutions, fintech companies, academics, development partners and technology leaders to submit articles, case studies and commentary.
Established in 1993, NIBSS is owned by the Central Bank of Nigeria and licensed deposit money banks. The company operates key infrastructure supporting interbank clearing and settlement and provides systems including the Bank Verification Number and payment infrastructure used across Nigeria.
With digital payments becoming increasingly important to consumers, businesses and financial institutions, the new publication is positioned as a platform for examining the infrastructure and innovations that underpin the country’s evolving digital economy.
