Golden Penny, Union Bank and Aquafina have joined the corporate sponsors of Cycling Lagos 2026, strengthening private-sector support for the fifth edition of the annual cycling event scheduled for Saturday, September 12, at the National Stadium in Surulere.
The event will bring together competitive cyclists, clubs, celebrities, children and families, with participants riding through designated routes in Lagos before returning to the stadium.
Aquafina, the bottled water brand produced by Seven Up Bottling Company, will provide drinking water at hydration points along the race route, including the Coastal Road, as well as at the starting and finishing points, Brandspur Brand News reports.
The company is also providing financial support for the event, extending a relationship with Cycling Lagos that organisers said dates back to the initiative’s launch in 2018.
Seven Up Bottling Company’s Marketing Manager for Energy and Hydration, Omokehinde Thomas, said hydration stations would operate throughout the race to ensure participants have access to water from the start through to the finish.
Other corporate organisations supporting this year’s event include Adron Homes, Checkers Custard and AIICO Multishield.
Cycling Africa Limited, which organises Cycling Lagos in partnership with the Lagos State Cycling Association, believes the expanding corporate involvement reflects growing interest among businesses in initiatives that combine healthy living, sustainable transportation and opportunities for consumer engagement.
Bamidele Adeleye, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cycling Africa Limited, welcomed the returning and new sponsors, noting Seven Up Bottling Company’s continued involvement with the event since its inception.
Beyond the cycling competition, sustainability is taking a prominent place in the 2026 edition.
This year’s theme, “Trash to Treasure: Unlocking Recycling Capacity for a Sustainable Future,” focuses attention on the potential to treat discarded materials as economic resources while encouraging greater awareness of recycling and responsible waste management.
As part of the build-up to the event, organisers held a recycling-focused webinar on September 3, bringing experts together to discuss opportunities for strengthening waste management and recycling in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria.
Saturday’s programme will feature a Children’s Race and Celebrity Race alongside the main competitive cycling event.
Organisers expect cyclists and cycling clubs from Lagos and other parts of Nigeria to participate, while families and other spectators are also expected at the event.
The combination of sport, sustainability and corporate participation gives Cycling Lagos a platform extending beyond competitive racing, as organisers seek to encourage healthier lifestyles while drawing greater public attention to environmentally responsible practices.
