Golden Penny Foods has expanded its consumer engagement strategy in Nigeria’s South-East, hosting a large-scale food festival and Semovita Soup Festival in Owerri as parent company Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN) intensifies efforts to strengthen brand loyalty and market presence in the region.
The one-day event, held at the NTA Channel 12 premises in Owerri, brought together hundreds of consumers for a combination of food experiences, live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, competitions and entrepreneurship-focused masterclasses. The activation showcased Golden Penny’s broad portfolio, including pasta, noodles, semovita, flour, cereals and edible oils, allowing attendees to experience the products through breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared on-site.
The festival forms part of Golden Penny’s broader consumer marketing strategy, which has seen similar events organised in Lagos and Enugu to deepen customer engagement through experiential marketing rather than conventional product promotion. According to Brandspur Brand News, the initiative reflects FMN’s continued investment in regional campaigns tailored to local audiences.
Entertainment featured performances by musician Anyidons alongside Evado and Tuff King, while comedian Chief Imo and actress Rachael Okonkwo hosted the event. Attendees also participated in cooking, singing and dancing competitions, with winners receiving Golden Penny products and other prizes.
Beyond entertainment, the company organised culinary masterclasses aimed at home cooks and food entrepreneurs. Industry experts demonstrated premium Nigerian cooking techniques, practical strategies for building food businesses with limited resources and modern approaches to preparing traditional Igbo dishes while preserving their cultural identity.
The Owerri activation followed FMN’s Eastern Region Business-to-Consumer Conference, where distributors and dealers across the South-East were recognised for their contributions to the company’s distribution network. The sequence highlights the company’s strategy of strengthening both supply channels and consumer demand within the region.
Golden Penny has identified the South-East as a key growth market, with the company increasingly deploying region-specific campaigns that combine local entertainment personalities, culinary experiences and community engagement to reinforce brand affinity.
The initiative comes as competition intensifies within Nigeria’s fast-moving consumer goods sector, where manufacturers are increasingly relying on experiential marketing to build stronger emotional connections with consumers and encourage repeat purchases.
By combining product sampling, entertainment, entrepreneurship support and cultural relevance, Flour Mills of Nigeria is positioning Golden Penny to strengthen its footprint in one of the country’s most important consumer markets while supporting long-term brand growth.
