Hyundai Motor America and National Geographic are joining forces to create “Outside Academy,” educational augmented reality (AR) experiences that empower families to explore iconic national parks while inspiring them to create journeys of their own.

The digital hub for “Outside Academy” can be experienced at https://www.nationalgeographic.com/outside-academy/ and will feature Zion, Yosemite and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks.

“Education for millions of students was disrupted this past year, so we partnered with National Geographic to create AR science, geography, and history lessons from three of America’s most famous national parks,” said Angela Zepeda, CMO, Hyundai Motor America.

“Our passion for technology and more sustainable mobility made this a great opportunity to incorporate three of our adventure-ready electrified vehicles: The Santa Fe HEV, Tucson PHEV, and the all-electric Ioniq 5. Hyundai has the widest range of green vehicles, and we’re proud to showcase how we’re evolving the journey toward an all-electric future.”

“Combining technology with creativity, we’re bringing audiences immersive ways to explore some of the most awe-inspiring national parks – whether they’re at home or visiting the locations in person – and seamlessly integrating Hyundai’s vehicles into the experience,” said Andrew Messina, Senior Vice President, Disney Advertising Sales. “We’re proud to deepen our relationship with Hyundai and continue pushing the boundaries of advertising with this first-ever co-branded AR series and offering innovative solutions to engage consumers.”

The “Outside Academy” has three main components:

  • NatGeo.com: The digital hub is an engaging destination, including 360-degree videos, interactive hotspots, video clips, custom articles and how-tos for the drivable experiences
  • Instagram: On Nat Geo’s hero Instagram account, users can explore the parks in 360-degree AR
  • In-Person: Drivable, in-person experiences use AR animations, text, and audio-triggered by on-location items to create a more immersive experience

“Outside Academy” launched this week featuring Zion National Park with content from Yosemite National Park and Great Smoky Mountains National Park being released later in the year. It will also be promoted with a full-page spread in the May print issue of National Geographic magazine.

“Outside Academy” was developed in collaboration with National Geographic CreativeWorks, Hyundai’s agency of record, INNOCEAN USA, and its media agency, Canvas.

Kantar launches South Africa’s biggest ever consumer panel

0

Kantar, the world’s leading evidence-based insights and consulting company, has launched a new consumer panel in South Africa – the largest in the region, and the second to be built upon digital data capture capabilities, after Kantar’s panel in UAE.

The panel will provide global and local brands and retailers with an in-depth understanding of the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) purchasing habits of the dynamic South African population, enabling them to measure their competitive performance and find new growth opportunities. The first dataset will be published in July 2021.

Kantar moves to single brand Brand Spur Nigeria

The new panel will measure the FMCG purchasing behaviour of more than 6,500 South African households at launch – the largest sample in the region. Covering all nine provinces, the panellists are representative of all socio-economic groups.

The digital capture methodology enables each panellist to provide continuous information about all their grocery purchases via barcode collection and in-the-moment trip records, using their smartphone. This reduces data lag and increases the robustness of the data collected.

Other benefits include:

  • Analysis by product, channel and retailer
  • Reporting and segmenting by SKU
  • Channel management tools to support retailer relationship discussions
  • Data available 24/7 via Kantar’s Worldpanel data delivery and analysis platform
  • Connecting the truth of purchase behaviour with what people think and how they choose products through bespoke shopper surveys
  • A unique and complete view of consumers in South Africa, including all nine provinces and all socio-economic groups.

The new panel is part of Kantar’s ongoing investment to support client expansion in Africa, where it has been present for a decade. With the largest consumer panel presence of any market research company, it provides brands and marketers access to a wider set of markets, benchmarks, trends and insights.

In addition to two panels in the Middle East, Kantar is now present within 13 African countries, representing 78% of Africa’s total GDP. These include its recent panel investments in South Africa, Ivory Coast and Ethiopia, consumer panels in Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria, as well as the commitment to expand its footprint to meet our clients’ demands in Algeria, Cameroon, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda.

Kantar will build on the insights delivered through its new panel with its portfolio of expert solutions – bespoke advanced analytical services which support clients’ decision-making in key areas such as retail strategy, media investment and innovation. To meet the need for fast delivery, the data will be made available via Worldpanel’s data delivery and analysis platform, which can be accessed 24/7.

Idriss El Ganari, Managing Director Middle East & Africa, Worldpanel Division, Kantar, says:

“South Africa offers plenty of opportunities for global and local FMCG brands to find new sources of growth, but only if you are able to understand shoppers and their rapid behaviour changes.

With its size and diversity, South Africa really needed the right consumer panel to capture shopping behaviours from all types of households, income levels and ethnic groups. We are very excited to have successfully launched this new consumer panel in one of the most important African economies.”

Ivan Moroke, CEO of South Africa, Insights Division, Kantar, says:

“We are thrilled that Worldpanel is launching in South Africa. This is another arrow in our quiver that adds actionable insights to help our clients in the FMCG space gain a more holistic view of shopper behaviour and along with our consumer insights, builds a complete understanding of people to help brands pursue growth and increase market share”.

Josep Montserrat, President, Worldpanel Division, Kantar, says:

“This strategic approach will allow us to reinforce our understanding of shopper and consumer behaviour in the African continent, as well as our robust network of consumer panels across the world to provide a global context for brands wanting to grow at home or abroad.”

The South Africa panel connects Kantar’s wider African consumer panels with a consolidated global network of harmonised panel services in 50+ countries in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East.

The first dataset for the South Africa consumer panel will be available in July with data for Q2 2021.

Raising Capital for Corporations: Securitization as A Sustainable Option in Nigeria

By Nathaniel Solomon, Investment Banker, DLM Capital Group

In recent times, there has been an unending need to access more capital in even more innovative and creative approaches without incurring too much liability. Largely, capital can be raised by simply inviting the public to invest in the shares of the company and thereby becoming shareholders.

Nathaniel Solomon, Investment Banker, DLM Capital Group | Brand Spur Nigeria

Alternatively, the specific company can also reach out to financial houses to take credit for its activities. One of the most novel approaches today of raiding capital for companies is to pool liquid assets together and transform them into tradeable assets which can then be used to investors. This process is known as Securitization and it is optimally realized through the transforming machinery of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).

Securitization is the process of turning assets into securities which involves an arrangement in which one party (the originator) sells a portfolio of assets to a special purpose vehicle (the issuer), who finances the purchase by packaging the cash flows from these assets as tradable financial instruments, which are sold to investorsThe underlying assets used as securities for investors under securitization could either be Asset-backed- Securities (ABS) or Mortgage-backed Securities (MBS). Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) is a legal entity such as a corporation, trust or partnership established for a specific and limited purpose. SPV does not have the right or ability to engage in any activities other than those rightly granted to it in the legal documents creating and governing the securitization transaction and the SPV. It is worthy of note that one of the essential features of an SPV is embedded in the principle of bankruptcy remoteness i.e., a securitization SPV is never threatened with potential bankruptcy. In other words, should the sponsoring company enter bankruptcy proceedings, the company’s creditors cannot seize the assets of the SPV.

An SPV has benefits that make it unique from other methods of raising capital.

Since securitization helps to transform illiquid capital into liquid capital, it ensures fast capital liquidation by originating companies so that they can engage in other business as opposed to tying down capital for a long period. Securitization also accelerates cash receipts from the receivables while removing the receivables from the originator’s balance sheet.

It provides off-balance-sheet financing as opposed to onbalances funding as in the case of book debt. Securitization fosters the growth of the economy, through the provision of additional ways of raising funds for business activities and provides a platform whereby the originator can transfer risk without selling off its assets. In securitization, investors are also protected against the credit risk exposures of the originating company as the true sale transfers all the risks and benefits of the assets in question to the SPV which is a distinct entity and bankruptcy remote.

The major legal/regulatory framework on securitization in Nigeria is the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Rules on Securitization, 2015. Also worthy of note is the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria Act, 2010 (the AMCON Act) 7 as amended which has a structure akin to asset securitization to rehabilitate distressed financial institutions. The SEC Rules refers to Securitization simply as the issuance of securities backed by a pool of assets and to SPV as a legal entity formed with the exclusive purpose of acquiring and holding certain assets for the sole benefit of noteholders in the Asset-backed securities, such that the noteholders have acquired nothing but undivided interests in the asset pool.

At DLM Capital Group, we function as a sole arranger to more than 80% of structured finance transactions in Nigeria, with 100% of all securitization transactions in the market currently.  Till date, we have maintained a long-standing record as West Africa’s Best Securitization House. Irrefutably, Securitization has numerous benefits if well explored by companies in raising capital for their various needs. However, this option is not being explored by many companies in Nigeria majorly because they are not aware of its existence and process.
