Roger Federer to Play New Charity Match in March with Bill Gates and more (Video)

Fourth charity match in the last 12 months for Roger Federer. On March 5 the Swiss will play the “Match for Africa 5 Silicon Valley” at the 17,000-seat San José SAP Centre stadium.

The entire money raised will go the Roger Federer Foundation that is planning to reach 1 million children by the end of the year. Federer will play a singles match with Jack Sock, then a doubles match alongside Bill Gates (for the second time after 2017 Seattle in April) against Sock and TV hoster Savannah Guthrie.

We want to go places where people really enjoy tennis, and where it might sell out‘, Federer told Sf Chronicle: ‘Everybody has a lot of fun.’ Federer also recalled the time when a decade ago he was really dominating in almost every tournament: ‘It was incredibly exciting, learning about organization and professionalism.

But I hardly remember certain matches. It was a blur, too much all at once. I’ve had to slow things down.’ His Foundation was created in 2003. What was the motivation? ‘I asked myself the question, ‘What do I want to do besides play tennis?’I wanted to do something on my own, not just donate a racket.

I wanted to do something that could leave a legacy.’
