Traffic offences are punishable under the Traffic and Road Safety Act. Different offences are prescribed different penalties, which include paying a cash penalty.

If caught violating a traffic rule and you wish to wave your right to a court trial, the alternative is to pay the prescribed fine for the particular offence.

In addition, the Table of driving penalties summarises the fines and penalties for the most serious offences (PURSUANT TO SECTION 10(4), 28(2) OF FRSC (ESTABLISHMENT) ACT, 2007 AND REGULATION 220 OF NRTR, 2012)
